    COMPANY TIMELINE

    1960

    Cecil William Duke first incorporated CW Duke & Sons to carry out maintenance to commercial properties.


    1969

    Concorde the supersonic airliner is built in Filton, Bristol. The maiden flight of Concorde 002 leaves filton airport on the 9th April 1969.


    1969

    Major retailers and banks became clients and the company turnover grew steadily. Terry becomes part of management.

    1970

    Salvage experts bring the SS Great Britain back from the Falkland Islands.


    1978

    Developed our own offices just outside the city centre

    1983

    Paul Sealy joined the CW Duke management team


    1983

    Bristol Rugby Club under the captaincy of Mike Rafter win the John Player Cup defeating Leicester 28-22 in a marvellous final.


    1988

    Neil Bracken joined the company as estimator/surveyor.


    1989

    Following continued growth we moved to our more central and distinctive offices at 55 Newfoundland Street.

    1991

    Bristol’s Massive Attack release their debut album Blue Lines to critical acclaim. ‘Unfinished sympathy’ is later voted the 10th greatest song of all time.

    1993

    CW was still part of the day to day running of the company but unfortunately at the age of 82 he sadly passed away.

    1994

    The need for expansion led to the purchase of 53 Newfoundland Street which remains our head office to this day.

    1995

    Jon Porter joins as estimator/surveyor.

    1998

    Terry Duke retires but maintains his majority shareholding. The remaining directors Paul, Neil and Jon manage the business.

    2000

    At Bristol is opened at Canon’s Marsh in Bristol, it's one of the UK’s biggest and most exciting interactive science centres.


    2001

    Paul Sealy, Neil Bracken and Jon Porter purchased CW Duke from Terry in a management buyout.


    2009

    Bristol City Museum and art Gallery is taken over by Graffiti artist Banksy’s for his biggest ever exhibition.

    2012

    CW Duke cements reputation with new brand to communicate our expertise to both existing and new clients up and down the UK.


    2014

    Steve Cameron joining the company as Contracts Director.

    2015

    Bristol was named the Europen Green Captial of the year. 


    2018

    Bristol Rugby rebranded as Bristol Bears. 



    2018

    Anniversary milestones achieved for Neil Bracken (30 Years), Mark Walker (25 Years) and Steve Dixon (20 Years and pictured)


    2019

    Our accreditation for ISO9001 gets better and better. We acheieved approval once more with a successful audit taking place. 



    2020

    At the end of 2020 Neil Bracken retired from the company after over 32 years. Neil started at CW Duke working as an Estimator and Surveyor before taking joint ownership of the business with Jon.


    2022

    Bristol Light Festival illuminated the city centre from 1-6 March 2022 and saw 170,000 people interact with and enjoy city centre spaces filled with colour and light. 


    2023

    CW Duke became signatories to the Bristol Property Inclusion Chater. 


    Nomintated for the 'Contractor of Year' at the Bristol Property Awards held at Ashton Gate.

    CW Duke welcomes our new apprentice Alfie Doherty to the team, he will be trained and supported in his Level 2 Site Carpentry qualification by our experienced Gary Lake and City of City of Bristol College.
